Fastidious Kingdoms –
Editing issues
Review based on the audio version.
For the most part, the information is good, but I’ve run into a few glaring mistakes. In the chapter on Margaret, George VI’s death is in January, not February. In another chapter, when discussing QEII’s four children, her daughter is referred to as “Elizabeth” instead of “Anne.”
Mr Ross also credits QEII (pr her courtiers) for “inventing” the walkabout, but that tradition began with her grandparents, George V and Queen Mary. Theirs was undoubtedly a more formal version that didn’t involve shaking hands with the peasantry, but they walked about nonetheless.
I’m sure there are other errors.
I’m particularly flummoxed because not only did the entire editing team miss it, but the (English) narrator did, too.

Very biased
The monarchy has positives and negatives for sure. For this writer to claim to be neutral is false. The book is full of language choices (oafish, wild, beaten) that are most definitely opinionated and biased. I am a fan of Dummies guides, but this one misses the mark by a longshot.
